The Music School is preparing for many Spring events. We look forward to sharing our music with all of you!

Spring Recitals (in person)

Young Artist Recital: Sunday, May 7 at 2 p.m. 

A formal recital will be held in the VCHS Auditorium showcasing students from all of the music school instructors. Instructors choose students who have shown great progress and commitment to their instrument.  

A reception will follow in the cafeteria. Everyone is invited. This is a free performance that is open to the campus and community. Bring your family and friends and help us fill up the auditorium for this special event! 

Scholarship Auditions on Saturday, May 20

We will return to in-person auditions this year. Auditions will take place in the SSMO Motherhouse, VC Music School Room #1 starting at 9 a.m. Each student will receive a 10 minute audition block. Auditions will be adjudicated by two independent music educators from the community. 

Eligibility: Students must be enrolled in the Music School for a minimum of two years and have participated in at least two recitals per year. The top five scores for elementary and middle school students will be awarded $150 each; top four scores for high school students will be awarded $250 each, and the highest scores in piano, strings, voice and winds will be awarded $325 from the Diane Kinkade Memorial Fund. 

Participants must sign up with their instructor before Friday, May 12. 

Summer Music Camp – Monday, June 26 to Friday, June 30  

Registration is open – no previous music experience required.

Valley Catholic Music School summer camp offers a rotation of piano, recorder, violin and voice. We teach music fundamentals, such as rhythm, note reading, terminology, movement and ear training. 

The primary focus is to have fun with friends who love music as much as we do. 

Summer music camp is for all ages and experience levels.

Instructor of the Month

Misty Williams, Harp

Harp | As a lifelong musician, Misty Williams started harp lessons at the age of 4. She began teaching in 2002, and set up a permanent harp studio in Portland in 2006. With more than 25 years’ experience, Misty focuses on teaching harp performance, technique, music theory, arrangement, and composition with students of all ages and skill levels. Misty received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Harp Performance from the University of Arizona, with Dr. Carrol McLaughlin. At that time, she was honored to perform both as a solo musician and as a member of HarpFusion, the University’s world-famous touring harp ensemble. While completing her degrees, she toured nationally and internationally, with concerts in Switzerland, China, Korea, and Spain. Misty is a harpist of many styles. She has studied music from around the world and enjoys adapting it for the harp. She believes that all music has its benefits and the most interesting music pulls from many influences.
