A Letter from the VCMS Principal – May 2022

On behalf of the Middle School staff, thank you for all the notes, treats, flowers and gifts during Teacher Appreciation Week. We are sincerely grateful for the outpouring of kindness shown to the staff this week. While the teachers love what they do, it is always nice to be remembered and this community is so generous. Thank you!

With the end of the year approaching, the calendar seems to explode with activity for students. Events that have been on hold are returning, while other end-of-year events are returning to a more familiar routine. We look forward to seeing your students showcase the efforts they put into their coursework at events such as the spring concerts, art fair, and Capstone presentations.

Looking ahead, we are excited to celebrate the eighth-grade class with our annual trip to Horning’s Hideout on Thursday, June 9. This last day of school for eighth graders will include time to reflect on their middle school journey and provide one last day to enjoy each other’s company as a class. We want this day to be structured fun, while ensuring that students are safe and supervised.

New this year, the eighth graders will end the day with a Sending Ceremony at 4:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The Sending Ceremony is an informal prayer service (students and staff will be coming back from a day-long camp) that allows us to come together in prayer and thanksgiving during our final time together.

The Sending Ceremony celebration is only open to the eighth-grade students, VCMS staff, and the parents and younger siblings (if other arrangements cannot be made) of the eighth-grade graduates. We look forward to recognizing the milestone the eighth-grade students (and the parents) have reached, and the start of a new tradition with the Sending Ceremony.
