A Letter from the VCMS Principal – February 2021

Dear VCMS Families,

It has been a busy and exciting month as we are just shy of the half waymark for Phase One of the middle school’s limited in-person instruction.  Roughly, 50% of our seventh and eighth grade students have been attending the in-person activities, while about 70% of sixth grade students are attending.  These students are rotating between spiritual, social-emotional, and physical activities within designated cohort groups.  For students who do not attend limited in-person activities, we continue to offer a livestream option.

The cohort teachers are predominately our religion and PE staff plus a few others who were willing to help teach an in-person class.  All of the in-person teachers, who wanted or who could receive the COVID vaccine, have received the first dose and are scheduled to receive the next dose before we move into Phase Two of our re-entry plan in March.

Special thanks to all of the VCMS staff for their focus, grace, and dedication during this time. I want to specifically recognize the Phase One in-person teachers as they are leading us through the transition back to in-person classes and they are here on campus each day. These teachers and staff members include Yvonne Ayesiga, Kathleen Birrell, Matt Coussens, Nick Fisher, Dale French, Julia Grieve, Nick Hegwood, Gena McGowan, Kara More, Sheila Riche, and Lanie Toth. I would like to also mention the other campus personnel and entities that directly help support our re-entry efforts, including Mr. Matcovich and Mrs. Walther, as well as our campus IT, Maintenance and Janitorial Departments.  While this list is not fully inclusive, these individuals have had a more active and visible role in helping us bring students back these last few weeks.

As always, we hope you are all staying safe and healthy, and we look forward to seeing you back on campus soon.
