When I was a child, every November 1st together with my sisters and mom, we created a Thankful Box. This special box was a long-standing tradition that my mom instilled in us and a tradition I excitedly passed down to my own children. I would spend hours picking just the right size box, wrapping it delicately in pretty paper so no one could peek inside, and contemplate all the things for which I was thankful. I would eventually write these things on a piece a paper, fold it up neatly, and place it into the creative masterpiece. We would eagerly wait until Thanksgiving Day to unwrap the box and reveal our multitude of thankful occurrences that took place during the month of November.
Although my family no longer creates a special box, I still like to reflect on the many blessings in my life. Being a part of the Valley Catholic community is top of my list this season. When specifically considering Valley Catholic High School, I am thankful for:
- All 365 of our students who walk through the doors as their authentic selves
- Our dedicated staff members who are committed to creating a welcoming community for our students
- The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon’s vision and fortitude in creating an educational community that promotes the dignity, respect, and value of each person
- Our beautiful campus
- A community service program where students are able to share their time and talents with others
- Robust extracurricular activities – athletics and the arts – where students are growing and learning
- Parents who are invested and involved in their children’s education
- Our Foundation that works tirelessly to secure funds for our students
- Dedicated alumni who stay involved and support the school.
Blessings abound at Valley Catholic High School and this season is a perfect time to remind ourselves of how fortunate we are to be part of this community!
Wishing all Valiant students, families, alumni, and friends a very happy and thankful November.
