A Letter from the VCHS Principal – February 2023

Dear VCHS Families,

At the end of January, the Fine Arts department at Valley Catholic High School hosted a winter Art and Drama Showcase. Students’ talents were on full display, highlighting their hard work and discipline.

Our spring musical, “Mary Poppins,” will debut Feb. 24. We have a record number of students participating in this classic show that will charm audiences of all ages.

Many Valley Catholic High School students also participate in band, orchestra, and choir. With a protected zero period, students sign up for these classes without feeling the stress of conflicting courses. In addition to zero period, we have students playing in our Pep Band at sporting events and forming lunch choirs for additional choral opportunities.

Research shows that art and music inspire students to excel in and out of the classroom.  Participation increases motivation, improves attitudes and attendance, and has a positive correlation to academic performance.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic presented extra challenges that  made it hard for our arts programs to fully rebound. Our dedicated teachers and administrators have met and outlined goals moving into spring and the next school year. It is our intention to build momentum and carry forward The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon’s century-long tradition of fostering and encouraging music and the arts throughout our school.

Valley Catholic High School looks forward to seeing our students shine and share their love of the arts with our community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sara Bruins
