Dear Families,
Happy Advent to all of you! For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this season, Advent, Latin for “coming,” began this past Sunday and is the season that starts off the Church’s liturgical year. It is the time before Christmas that we spend in preparation for Jesus’ coming. Throughout Advent, we prepare to remember and celebrate His original coming, but we also look forward to His second coming and prepare ourselves for when that time comes.
Advent is a wonderful season to focus on serving others. Part of the preparation for the coming of Jesus at Christmas is reflecting on what we do to help others: individually, as families, and as the VCES community.
This year may look different, but at VCES we are still working to serve others in our community, virtually. Our students and families will be supporting two local charities this year, The Oregon Food Bank and St. Vincent DePaul of Portland. Both of these agencies provide various resources and food to those who need it. Families will be able to contribute through online donations as many of the in person donations have been temporarily paused. We are proud of our VCES families for continuing to support others in our community.
Advent Blessings,
Melissa Doxtator, Valley Catholic Elementary School Principal
